Colony Collapse Disorder
As previously discussed in our biology section, Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD) is the chronic destabilization and deterioration of an individual bee colony. Unfortunately, the western honey bee (WHB) species has become synonymous with CCD and other degenerative aliments. It is thought that the dramatic decrease in the population of the WHB is caused by the commercial introduction of cellular phones and the electro-magnetic fields associated with electronic devices in general. Although it is plausible that the bees have been affected by electro-magnetic fields the idea has never been seriously entertained by scientists. Another theory for the so named "Bee Disappearance" is that the pesticides present on the surface of plants are infecting the worker bees and are brought back to the colony where it becomes almost epidemic. It is in a pesticides very nature to exterminate insects and arachnids that present a threat to plant life. Ergo, it is entirely conceivable that advanced pesticides are the genesis of CCD; however seriously scientists are accepting this theory no action has been taken to reduce or prevent the use of pesticides. The last widely accepted theory for CCD is the introduction of Nosema Apis, a fungus that attacks bees digestive cycle, in North America (See Nosema Apis).
