Bee Dependent Crops
One of the most troubling aspects of Colony Collapse Disorder is that without the honey bee many species of plant will cease to exist. The image shown below displays the number of bee dependent crops per state. We can see that California produces a greater number of crops than other states in the USA. It is important to keep in mind that each crop has it's own set of businesses and it's own economy which means that when these crops become harder to produce due to pollination these economies and businesses will become strained and may even collapse. Perhaps more importantly, however, is the increasing risk of loosing the species that require bees to survive. If bees can no longer support the plants because their population is threatened; then the plants will not be able to reproduce and will ultimately go extinct. The species we are referring to are not uncommon, but rather everyday household foods that we require to continue the lifestyle to which we are adapted.
Bees and Pollination
We chose to create this Prezi to accompany the information above because it includes information that is relevant to pollination. This Prezi illustrates bee's role in pollination and how the reduction of the population will affect you.
